Laura Newman is a painter who lives in Brooklyn, New York. She is an assistant professor at Vassar College, Poughkeepsie, New York,
where she teaches painting and drawing.
In recent years she has presented solo exhibitions of her work at Randolph-Macon College; Bellwether Gallery
(reviewed in Artforum magazine, summer 2002),and Tenri Gallery. An article on her paintings by Judith Linhares appeared in the
Spring 2002 issue of Bomb magazine. Her work has been included in group exhibitions at the Weatherspoon Art Museum, the New Museum,
and the Brooklyn Museum, among other places.
Newman has received fellowships from the American Academy in Rome, the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, the American Academy
and Institute of Arts and Letters, and the New York Foundation for the Arts. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and educated at Cooper Union,
the California Institute of the Arts, and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.
